Friday night was definitely an action packed night. There was tons of changing of positions, lot's of side by side racing, and what seems to be a lot more this year compared to the last couple years is a lot more guys rubbin out there. As the night started we weren't too sure that the weather was going to hold as our first practice session was shortened due to a rain shower. But even though the clouds were looming the night went off. In the first heat race we fought our way from the back and made our way up to fourth spot. In the qualifier race we started deep in the pack again but had made some good changes to the car and we made our way up to a second spot. In the feature it seemed like everyone had stepped up there game and was hungry for the front. There was lot's of good racing going on with cars going back and fourth for positions, racing door handle to door handles for laps on end. In the end we finished with a fifth place finish. We weren't happy with a fifth but with how good all the cars were working; it was anyone's race to be had. Our next Late Model race is next Friday July 10th, but we have a Super Truck race this Saturday that is going to be a good one.

This Friday we have our third point’s race of the season and can't wait to get back on the track to try and put a cushion on our newly acquired points lead. We are heading into the night with a slight lead over the 55 car of Jim Gaunt. Over the years some of the best racing in the late model division has been between the 55 and the 70 car, battling door handle to door handle right to the the checkered flag. We can only hope to see more of the same this year. This weekend racing is Friday night, the gates open at 6:00pm and racing kicks off at 7:00pm. It’s supposed to be a beautiful night so we hope to see you there. Saturday was a beautiful night for racing. We came into the night 8 points out of first in the fifth spot in the standings, so we needed a good night to get back to the top. The first heat race went off without a hitch. We started on the second row on the inside and got out in front early and held onto the lead for the rest of the race. In the second heat race we had to start at the back and we picked our way through the field getting up to Dave Bone in the 38 car. We then had an awesome door handle to door handle race with him for several laps then finished in the second spot. In the feature we started towards the front again and made quick work of the guys in front of us and sat in the top spot for the majority of the race. Around lap 30 the 55 car of Jim Gaunt and the 77 car made it past us on the outside and we held on for a third place finish, despite a strong pursuit from the 14 of Glen Hertzke. After we went through tech inspections we found out that the 77 car had been disqualified for his spoiler being too big. So after it was all said and done we are now on top of the point standings, with a two point lead on the 55 car of Jim Gaunt. Our next race is Friday June 26th. This Saturday is our second local point’s race for #70 LA Weight Loss Chevy Impala SS. After a rough start in the season opener we bounced back to a top five finish in the WSSL Auto Parts Arca West 150, and now are looking to get back to where we finished the season last year on top of the points standings. There is a lot of fast cars in the division this year but as the past has shown that only means that we up our program that much more. Right now we are sitting in fifth spot in the standings and only eight points out of first place, and with how close the top five cars are things can be shaken up very quickly. Tomorrow night the gates open at 5:00pm and racing kicks off at 6:00pm. Hope to see you there When we woke up Saturday morning it sure did not look like a good day for racing. The weather definitely was not looking like it was going to co-operate but the rain held off it was just good and cold. We had a decent practice putting up a sub track record time in the first practice session. We had a decent run in qualifying with a fourth place spot, with a 15.534. In the first heat we had a good race and ended up finishing 4th. The second heat race was a lot better jumping out to an early lead, but with strong pressure from the 74 and the 48 made it a great race and the victory. In the feature we were doing really well till about lap 40, we were in fourth place and the 99 truck came across our nose coming out of turn 4 to send us both into a spin across the start finish line. We managed to stay on the lead lap, but started at the tail end of the pack. After battling through the field we finished in the fifth spot. So after the first race of the year we are sitting in third place in the standings and only 6 points out of first. Our next Super Truck race is on the 4th of July. This Saturday is the fourth race of the year for Thunderbolt Racing but the first run and debut of the 07 LA Weight Loss Chevrolet Silverado in the Super Truck Racing Series. This will be the Super Trucks second race of the year, having there first race in Vernon on May 23. These trucks run races all across western Canada as well as have a four race mini series in Saskatoon at ACMS. The winner of the Saskatoon four race mini series wins a trip to Martinsville VA. To the Nascar Sprint Cup Series race on October 25th 2009. The race tomorrow runs in conjunction with the A&W Martensville Street Stock Invitational. So tomorrow night's races should be really good. Qualifying starts around 4:30 and racing starts at 5:00. Hope to see you there. On Saturday night we competed in the WSSL auto parts Arca West 150. The day started off good, having the 3rd quickest time in the 1st practice session. As the day went on the wind got stronger and stronger and started to cover the track with a fine dust that was causing the track to become slippery. Once qualifying came around there was quite a few cars losing control and spinning out. We didn't spin out but qualified 12th. The feature started with 22 cars and we were on the 7th row on the outside. We cracked into the top ten fairly quickly, and then started to pick off cars slowly. Around lap 120 we found the #70 car in third place. With a slight mishap in turn one we lost one position and finished the race in fourth. All and all it was a very good race just not enough laps to try and push the leaders. Our next race is this coming Saturday. |
