Cruise Night

8/25/2010

This past Friday night race showed the effects on teams from the previous race six days prior. There was three teams missing that weren't able to get there cars done in such a quick turnaround, and the ones that were there still showed some damage from the last race. It was a good thing that there was only one caution in three races. That didn't mean that guys were letting up at all though.

In the first heat race we had to start at the back due to our DQ in the last local race. The car was working good and was fast but so was the 55 and 77 so we ended up with a third place finish. In the second heat race we got a second place finish behind the 14 of Glen Hertzke. In the feature race it started off a little dicey as early on in the race it was four wide going down the front straightaway with us on the very inside. By the time cars made into turn one the cars had sorted out and it was only two wide. By about lap 10 we had made it up to second place and had to chase down the 55 car for the lead, but the 77 wasn't far behind us. By lap 15 we were running side by side with Vangool. After a hard fought battle for ten laps he got the better of us and we had to settle for a third.

This Saturday we are heading down to Kings Park Speedway in Regina for the fourth race in the Dakota Dunes Western Canadian SLM Championship Series.  We don't know what to expect down there as this will be the first time to this track with a crate motor, as well they have done some re-paving since Trent was last there in 2004.  The last time he was down there he won the race so we are hoping for more of the same. Qualifying starts at 5:00pm and racing starts at 6:00pm.

Not a Good Day

This past Saturday night was not a good race for the #70 LA Weight Loss Chevy Impala. The night started off good as we qualified 4th out of 20 cars and won the heat race starting from the seventh position. Before the feature we were lined up in the second position but with Trevor Emond taking the $1000.00 challenge to go to the back and the inversion being a twelve, so we started in the twelfth position.  The race started off good and we were moving our way up through the field but on lap 35 there was a wreck on the back straightaway and unfortunately Trent was at the tail end of it.  The car got some front end damage and knocked the toe out pretty good. We stayed out on the track and kept logging laps with left front fender rubbing on the tire the car wasn't very good.  But after a caution the car started to come back to life and Trent started working his way through the field.  We were sitting in fourth place and going for third when coming down the back straightaway on the inside of Jeff Riemer he turned down on us causing the right rear tire to blowout. Once the car came into pits we noticed that there was alot more damage than just a blown out tire. We sent the car back out but the night was over a few laps later when the caution came back out and saw that rear end was not pointing in the right direction.  We ended up finishing in the 15th position with a DNF.

We have alot of work to do before the car hits the track this Friday but now we are back to local racing. This will be our third local race, with one more on September 4th. The gates open this Friday at 5:30pm and the green flag drops at 7:00pm.

Blacksun Recap

It's been three weeks since our last race and we have had time to cool down from a disappointing 8th place finish in the Blacksun 150.  The finish was not an indication of how good our car was that night. The #70 LA Weight Loss Chevy Impala was definitely a top three car with a great chance to win the race, but around the 50 lap mark of the race the rear of the car had a small fire and had to be put out by the safety crew. Once the car was back on the track it took a while for the speed to come back but in the last 50 laps we were back up to speed and charging through the field.  Trent got the car all the way up to fourth position but because of a questionable call from the tower we were scored one lap down from an altercation with an official.  So with that we settled for an eighth place finish.

This coming Saturday we will be running in the Propane Plus 150, which is the third stop for the Dakota Dunes Western Canadian SLM Championship Series.   Going into the event we are sitting in third place with a thirteen point deficit to make up on leader Trevor Emond in 17 car.  We are hoping with some of the changes that we have made from last race that we won't have any issues this time.  This is a big race for us because the title sponsor of this race is Propane Plus Automotive. This is our crew chiefs business that he owns and operates. So we want to do extremely well for this event.  Racing is this Saturday, the gates open at 4:30pm, with qualifying starting at 5:00pm and the green flag drops at 6:00pm.
