Inaugural Dakota Dunes WCSLMCS Race

6/22/2010

We are only four days away the very first Dakota Dunes Casino Western Canadian Super Late Model Championship Series race.  We are very excited and can't wait for this five race series to start.  The winner of this series not only do they get the bragging rights of being the WCSLMCS Champion they also get a trip to Martinsville Virginia to watch the Nascar Sprint Cup race in October.  So there is alot on the line.  We are expecting upwards of 25 or more cars to show up for this event.

The one thing about these 150 lap races is that Trent has alot of experience in the longer races.   These races not only count for points in the Dakota Dunes series but also count towards the WSSL local championship.  With thirteen point deficit that we need to make up now it's going to be a tough uphill battle, with six races to go we should be able to do it.  This Saturday qualifying starts at 5:00 pm and racing starts at 6:00pm.  This is a must see race that you don’t want to miss.

Our second race night of the season got off to a rough start as we were postponed from our originally scheduled Friday night race due to rain.  So we got rescheduled to Saturday night, and the weather held together for a great night of racing.  We unloaded the car and we picked up right where we left off from the first race.  The #70 LA Weight Loss Impala SS was fastest in the first practice and 2nd in the second practice.  We knew we had a good car we just had to do a little tweaking to make it a bit faster.  While we were deciding what adjustments to make we noticed that we were a little shy on cars in the last practice, we were missing three cars.  Dave Bone in the 38 car had blown his motor; Doug Bienna in the 09 car was also having motor issues and didn’t make it to the track.  As well Howard Crossman in the 56 car was planning to race for the first time of the year and was unable to make as he had prior commitments.  In the first heat race we worked our way to the front and even with tough pressure from the 77 car of Greg Vangool, we held on for the win.  In the second heat race the car was working good but while in second place we couldn’t quite make it past the 14 car of Glen Hertzke, and in the process of working on the 14 car the 77 made it past us and we held on for third place.  In the feature as based on points we started at the back as we had been all night, the first lap the cars didn’t change position very much but coming out of turn four on lap 2 a couple cars started to get into each other and the next thing you know guys were spinning all over the place.  Thankfully there was a small hole between the 14 car and the wall and Trent managed to squeeze the car through without any damage.  Once the cars had lined up again we had gained a few spots due to the caution and were sitting in a good spot.  By lap 5 we had made it to third place and were hunting down the 55 car of Jim Gaunt.  After a great battle we made it past him with only Vangool left in front of us.  After a few cautions that tightened the field up we didn’t quite have an enough to for the 77 car, and we held on for a second place finish.  After the race in post race tech we were deemed to be to low on our side skirts and were disqualified from the feature, losing the eighteen points that we had just got for second place.  We are currently in the process of appealing the decision and should have an answer by Wednesday the 23rd.  We are hoping the decision gets over turned and we would have a 5 point lead on a three way tie for second place.  If it doesn’t get overturned we will be sitting in 4th place with a thirteen point deficit to make up, as there will be a three way tie for first.

The season is now underway and our second race is this Friday night. We were very happy with the performance of the new 2010 LA Weight Loss Centers Impala SS in its first race.  We didn't know what to expect with it being a new car, but we weren't disappointed. This will be our last Friday night style race till late August, because our next three races will be in the Dakota Dunes Western Canadian SLM Championship Series.

Last race we had ten local teams racing, the rumor mill has said that Howard Crossman will have his car ready to go, to bring the total up to eleven cars.   As well I wouldn't be surprised to see some cars from Alberta make the trip down to shake there cars down before the first Dakota Dunes race on June 26th.  The gates open at 6:00pm and the racing starts at 7:00pm.
